Marriage Visa (F-6) Complete Guide: From Eligibility to Required Documents

What is a Marriage Visa?

The Marriage Visa (F-6) is a residence status granted to foreign nationals married to Korean citizens, allowing them to live legally in Korea. It is a representative long-term visa mainly required for couples formed through international marriage who wish to live together in Korea.

Eligibility

  • Foreign nationals married to a Korean citizen
  • The marriage must be proven to be genuine and ongoing
  • Applicants with prior immigration violations or criminal records may be disqualified ※ If there are suspicions of a sham or fraudulent marriage, the screening process will be stricter

Application Procedure

  1. Preparation: Gather the required documents
  2. Submission: Apply at the local Immigration Office or via HiKorea online system
  3. Interview & Investigation: Verification of the authenticity of the marriage
  4. Decision & Permit: Notification of results and visa issuance

  • Public Assistance: Receiving basic livelihood support may result in disadvantages.
  • Period of Stay: Typically, a 1-year stay is granted initially, with the option to renew.
