Extension of Stay Period for Registered Foreigners

1. Overview (Electronic Civil Petition)

This service allows registered foreigners to apply for an extension of their stay before the expiration of their current permitted period. Only certain visa holders are eligible for online application.

※ For registered foreigners under age 17, if they do not apply themselves, their parents or legal guardians must apply on their behalf.

Eligible Visa Categories for Online Application:

• D-1 (Culture/Arts), D-2 (Student), D-4 (General Trainee), D-5 (Journalism), D-6 (Religion), D-7 (Intra-company Transferee), D-9 (Trade Management), D-10 (Job-Seeking), E-1 (Professor), E-2 (Conversation Instructor), E-3 (Research), E-4 (Technical Instructor), E-5 (Professional), E-6 (Arts/Entertainment), E-9 (Non-professional Employment), E-10 (Seafarer), F-1 (Visiting/Accompanying Family), F-3 (Dependent), H-1 (Working Holiday), H-2 (Working Visit).

2. Special Conditions for F-1 (Visiting Family) Holders

Only the following purposes under F-1 status are eligible for online extension:

1. Applicants for Korean nationality (F-1-7), children born in Korea to lawfully staying foreigners (F-1-8)
2. Spouse/minor child of F-4 (F-1-9), spouse/minor child of H-2 (F-1-11)
3. Spouse of F-2 (F-1-12), parents of minor D-2 students (F-1-13)
4. Parents of outstanding talent, investors, or students (F-1-15)
5. Spouse or child of F-4 holders applying for naturalization (F-1-71)
6. Spouse or child of F-4 holders applying for permanent residency (F-1-72)

Not eligible for online extension (must visit Immigration Office): Household assistants, unrelated cohabitants, family of marriage migrants, separated marriage migrants, adult unmarried children, relatives’ visits, family cohabitation, etc.

3. Excluded Visa Types

Not eligible for online extension:

• D-3 (Industrial Training), D-8 (Corporate Investment), E-7 (Special Occupation), F-2 (Resident), F-6 (Spouse of Korean National), F-2-4 (Refugee), F-4 (Overseas Korean), F-5 (Permanent Resident), G-1 (Miscellaneous).

4. Application Notes

• If system errors occur during online application, contact the Immigration Contact Center (dial 1345).
• If the error occurs one business day before visa expiration, you must visit the Immigration Office directly.

5. In-person Application (with Reservation)

All registered foreigners (except F-5 Permanent Residents) may apply for an extension in person by making a reservation at their local Immigration Office or branch.

• Non-refundable once processed.
• Fee exemption: Argentine nationals under 14 years of age.

12. Additional Notes

• Online application period: From 4 months before expiration until 1 business day before expiration (excluding weekends/holidays).
• In-person application: Possible until 1 business day before expiration (excluding weekends/holidays).
• For F-1 minors: The registered residence must match the parent/guardian’s registered address. If not, update the residence before applying online. Otherwise, the application will be rejected.

등록외국인의 체류기간연장허가

• • 등록외국인이 체류기간 만료전 체류기간연장을 신청하는 민원으로 아래 해당자만 전자민원으로 처리가 가능합니다. 단, 17세 미만의 등록외국인 본인이 신청하지 아니하면 부모 등 신청의무자가 신청하여야 합니다.

  • 가사정리, 비세대 동거인, 결혼이민자 가족, 혼인단절 결혼이민자, 가사보조인, 성인 미혼친자, 친척방문, 가족동거 목적으로 체류하는 외국인은 출입국·외국인관서를 방문하여 신청하시기 바랍니다.
  • ※ 제외 : 산업연수(D-3), 기업투자(D-8), 특정활동(E-7), 거주(F-2), 국민의배우자(F-6), 난민(F-2-4), 재외동포(F-4), 영주(F-5), 기타(G-1)
  • 전자민원으로 체류기간 연장허가 신청시 시스템 장애 또는 신청이 되지 않는 등 사유가 발생하는 경우 : 외국인종합안내센터(국번없이 1345)로 동 내용을 알려주시기 바랍니다. 단, 전자민원으로 신청가능한 체류기간 만료 1일전(토, 일, 공휴일 제외) 해당일에 신청중 심각한 시스템 장애 등 사유로 신청이 불가 할때는 반드시 관할 출입국·외국인관서 또는 출장소를 방문하여 신청을 하시기 바랍니다.
  • 모든 등록외국인은 체류기간 만료전 체류기간 연장을 위하여 관할 출입국·외국인관서 또는 출장소에 방문 예약이 가능합니다. (단, 체류기간 연장이 필요없는 영주(F-5)자격은 제외)

주의사항	방문동거(F-1, 17미만)외국인의 경우 현재 체류지가 부/모 등 신청의무자의 주소(또는 체류지)와 일치여부를 확인 후 일치하는 경우에만 전자민원으로 체류기간 연장허가를 신청하시고, 일치하지 않을 경우 해당 외국인의 체류지를 변경 후 전자민원으로 체류기간 연장허가를 신청하시기 바랍니다.(일치하지 않을 경우 반려)
